6 Ways to Maintain OTP Codes Confidentiality

Data security is a significant concern in today's digital world, especially when making online transactions using an OTP (one-time password) or one-time (temporary) password.

Currently, many modes of data theft still start with stealing or sharing OTP codes because of the need for knowledge that OTP codes are essential things that must be kept confidential.

Here are some simple tips to keep your OTP data confidential:

  • Always be alert and thorough

If you get a call or message from a foreign number claiming to be a bank officer and asking you to share personal data such as an OTP code, you must be alert and careful because it could be a method of fraud. The bank will never ask for your personal data, such as your PIN, password, and account OTP.

Ignore requests to share personal data by immediately hanging up and blocking suspicious numbers.

  • Use a secure internet connection when making transactions

If you are in a public place, use a secure internet connection and avoid using unknown public WiFi to access OTP codes and other financial services. This is to prevent leaking the OTP code to irresponsible parties by illegally accessing your device via the public WiFi internet network.

  • Use the two-step authentication (2FA) feature

Use dual authentication features such as fingerprints to increase the security level of banking and other financial accounts. This step will also prevent criminals from entering your personal accounts, especially those related to banking and financial accounts.

  • Don't share the OTP with people you don't know or have just met

Never share the OTP with anyone, whether someone you just met or someone who claims to be from a particular institution, because transactions carried out using a verified OTP will be the customer's responsibility.

  • Enable Security Notifications

Activate transaction notifications via email and your banking and financial services applications to notify you if there is suspicious activity on your account.

  • Block cards and Apps

If you have already given the OTP code to someone else or who you suspect is the perpetrator of fraud, immediately report it to the Bank MAS call center at number 1500011 or via customer care email at care@bankmas.co.id

You can also report to OJK contact 157 via the APPK portal at Kontak157.ojk.go.id if you find suspicious transactions resulting from the theft of your personal data.

By implementing the steps above, you can increase security and maintain the confidentiality of your OTP data. Security is a shared responsibility, and these steps can help protect your personal information from the threat of digital crime.
